No grid-wide roll out
• Test of a centralised MV tension management solution : blueprint technical solution and improvement of the diagnosis tool in order to factor in storage solutions.
• Automatic reclosure circuit-breaker to improve quality of supply in rural areas.
• Prototype for a digital Device for operation information exchange (eDEIE).
• Use of storage to ease up absorption of local renewable generation.
Further development
needed before roll out
• Local tension tuning (VAR) for MV power generators.
• Development of a first generation of smart MV/LV substations with extended measurement functions.
• Device for operation information exchange (DEIE xG).
Grid-wide roll out ongoing
ACHIEVEMENTS AND LESSONS LEARNED
• Experiment new ways of managing renewable energies’ integration into the middle voltage grid.
• Assess renewables’ impacts on power supply quality, protection planning and on safety for goods and people.
• Adapt grid planning tools to renewables’ intermittency.
• Assess the contribution of storage solutions as a means to stabilise the grid.

Storage system architecture
• Some 30 services identified for generation, distribution, transmission and consumption.
• 12 services tested (with possible switching from joint to dedicated feeder). Satisfactory results for peak shaving, curtailment, frequency and tension setting.
• Cross-stakeholders and cross-services approach with 94% availability over 304 days, up to 4 full charge/discharge cycles a day, global energy yield at 85% for some services.

A closer look on some major feedback
• Pre-industrial implementation of a “miniature digitalized command and control” (mini-PCCN).
• Local generation management to modulate feed-ins and VAR injection in order to improve grid management.
• Centralized management (command center ➔ substation) for dynamic tension modulation integrating real-time estimates of grid charge.
• Dynamic tension setting tests at MV/LV substation level.
