• Test of targeted power curtailment as an alternative to load sheddings based on reduced break-up power at the Linky meter level: 22 tests performed across approx. 300 voluntary households, with prior day-ahead notification and same-day SMS notification.
Further development
needed before roll out
• Formalising customers’ consent for data collection and their availability on “Enedis Data Connect”: setting up a portal to display individual consumption data.
• Improvement of the “Enedis à mes côtés” app.
• Daily consumption data (individual or aggregated) on various scales for local authorities: “Ti-Solenn” energy demand management platform for individual “coaching” and citizen outreach.
Grid-wide roll out ongoing
ACHIEVEMENTS AND LESSONS LEARNED
• Help customers individually manage their power consumption.
• Test targeted power curtailment to lower outage risks generated by grid constraints.
• Provide local authorities with better insight into local energy use through aggregated consumption data from the Linky system.
• Carry out a social survey on customer acceptance regarding new grid securing functions.
OBJECTIVES
1000 residential customers, 10 000 households with Linky smart meter.

Using smart grids to save electricity and secure quality of supply

• Real effects on the grids require a reduction of break up power by at least 50% (based on simulations) .
• Good public acceptance of the program conditioned to precise information being provided during test periods and limiting the number of tests carried out within one single period.
• Targeted curtailment closely linked to temperature variations, as showed by increased amount of breakers opening during coldest day in the period.
• Re-closing of breakers happened within less than 3 minutes on average, which testifies about high levels of understanding of the scheme across households.
